Map Pack Volatility Index · Updated Daily
Is Google Shuffling the Map Pack Today?
Every day we re-check 25 local packs — 5 trades across 5 metros — and measure how much Google rearranged them in the last 24 hours. One number. 0 means nothing moved. 100 means everything did.

Top 10
of each Google Maps pack, in order
Each morning we pull the top 10 Google Maps results for all 25 searches and compare them to yesterday's, two ways:
- 1.Who's in, who's out. How many businesses dropped out of the pack overnight, and how many new ones took their spots.
- 2.How far everyone moved. For the businesses still in the pack, how many positions each one jumped or fell.
Both halves get equal weight, and the average across all 25 packs becomes the day's index: 0–24 calm · 25–50 shaky · 51–100 storm. Think of it as a seismograph for local rankings — when the needle jumps, Google moved something.
When the pack shuffles, who keeps their spot?
Shuffle days aren't random. Every time Google rearranges the pack, it re-reads the same three signals — your Google Business Profile, your schema, and your website. That's the Domination Trinity™.
Businesses with all three legs aligned hold their spots on storm days — and often climb, because someone weaker just fell out. Businesses with leaking legs are the ones that vanish from the pack overnight and wonder what happened to their phone.
So before the next shuffle hits your city: find out which of your three legs are leaking. The audit is free and takes 30 seconds.
